I hold a B.Sc. degree in Computer Science (2004) and a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics (2008) from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil. I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Commissariat à l’Énergie Atomique et aux Énergies Alternatives (CEA), France (2008–2009), where I participated in pioneering research initiatives in metagenomics. I am currently a Full Professor in the Department of Computer Science at UFMG and a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Programs in Computer Science and Bioinformatics, both of which hold the highest CAPES evaluation score (7). I currently serve as Coordinator of the UFMG Graduate Program in Bioinformatics (2026–2028). Previously, I served as Deputy Coordinator for two consecutive terms (2020–2024) and as Program Coordinator from 2024 to 2026. I was an Affiliated Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) from 2019 to 2023, contributing to the Academy through advisory committees and strategic initiatives. Within the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC), I served as Chair of the Special Committee on Computational Biology in 2023 and as Vice-Chair in 2022. I also served as Secretary of the Central-Southeast Regional Chapter of the Brazilian Association for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (AB3C). My research focuses on Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, with an emphasis on the development of artificial intelligence-based models, algorithms, and computational tools for applications in structural biology, genomics, biotechnology, and precision medicine. My research interests include deep learning, protein structure modeling, biological data analysis, and data visualization.
