1st Brazilian Symposium on Bioinformatics in Education Takes Place at UFMG in October

Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) — Belo Horizonte, MG

The 1st Brazilian Symposium on Bioinformatics in Education (I SBBioEd) will take place from October 21 to 23 at UFMG, bringing together Bioinformatics, programming, Natural Sciences, and Artificial Intelligence to promote innovative approaches to education.

From October 21 to 23, the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) will host the 1st Brazilian Symposium on Bioinformatics in Education (I SBBioEd), an initiative dedicated to exploring new possibilities for integrating Bioinformatics, programming, Natural Sciences, and Artificial Intelligence into education.

Organized by the UFMG Interunit Graduate Program in Bioinformatics and the UFMG Department of Computer Science, the event aims to bring advances in Computer Science and Bioinformatics closer to the classroom, with a particular focus on Basic Education.

Over three days, teachers, students, and other participants will take part in a diverse program combining online short courses in the mornings with in-person lectures at UFMG in the afternoons.

One of the main goals of I SBBioEd is to demonstrate how concepts from Bioinformatics and Computer Science can become educational resources capable of making science education more interdisciplinary, inquiry-based, and connected to the technologies that are increasingly part of students’ everyday lives.

Tools and programming languages such as Python and Scratch, as well as approaches involving Artificial Intelligence, will be explored throughout the event. The program is designed to go beyond conceptual discussions by providing practical experiences that can inspire new teaching strategies.

For the Laboratory of Bioinformatics and Systems (LBS/DCC-UFMG), initiatives such as SBBioEd highlight an important dimension of Bioinformatics: its potential not only to generate scientific knowledge and develop new technologies, but also to contribute to the scientific and computational education of future generations.

The symposium will take place from October 21 to 23, with online short courses in the mornings and in-person lectures at UFMG in the afternoons. The registration fee is R$ 100 and provides access to the entire program.

I SBBioEd is aimed at teachers, students, and anyone interested in Education, Biology, Bioinformatics, Programming, Natural Sciences, and Artificial Intelligence.
